Design
Steve was designed to be powered by two front wheels with a supporting caster wheel at the back. This configuration was ideal for agility on the track.

Programming a Lego Robot

Writing code for Steve, the Lego car, to accomplish a set of given tasks.

Sensors
Relevant sensors were addded on in order to complete the tasks, including a forward facing ultrasonic sensor to check for approacing obstacles, and two downward-facing light sensors for detecting changes in the brightness of the floor (necessary for line detection).

On the track
The objective of this task was to follow the line/track and avoid the obstacle placed on it. The grey and black lines placed at the far end of this track served as lap counters, meant to be counted on every pass using the light sensor mounted on the side. In this example, Steve was set to do two laps, counting the black line twice. Follow the link below to watch more videos of Steve.
